What's actually working in home service marketing right now?
Before you spend another dollar on marketing, see where successful home service businesses are investing theirs.
We asked owners what's working in their markets right now. Here's what they said.
“Marketing is like an organism. You have to do all the things for it to work together.”
“Keep your Google page optimized. Put yard signs on every active job site. If you have company vehicles, do a full wrap. Don’t cheap out on a half wrap. Make it bright, bold, and easily legible. And anyone putting their logo on golf course carts: don’t do it.”
The move: The best marketing channels don’t work alone, they work together. Your wrapped truck gets attention, your yard sign keeps you top of mind, and your Google Business Profile helps turn recognition into a booked job.
“Meta was just really not bringing in what we need in our area.”
“Google Ads is our best channel by far. And whenever we clean a house in a neighborhood, we put out door knockers to five or 10 homes right beside that house.”
The move: Stop treating every marketing channel equally. Cut what's underperforming in your market, double down on what's working, and look for simple ways to squeeze more leads out of every job.
“I fired our traditional SEO company.”
“We doubled down on website maintenance, backlinks, and high-quality video imagery, building on that authority so there’s no question why you should choose us over everybody else.”
The move: Search is changing fast. If your marketing agency isn't talking about AI search, changing customer search behavior, and how they're adapting your strategy, it's time to start asking questions.
“Everyone’s email inbox is inundated with spam, but people’s mailboxes are completely empty.”
“We mail out 500 copies of our physical newsletter to our top 500 customers, both recurring and past. It’s allowed us to build real relationships with customers I’ve never met in person.”
The move: Sometimes the opportunity is where nobody else is looking. A physical newsletter or mailer to your best customers may cost less than you think, and it's a lot harder to ignore than another email.
Marketing dollars are easy to spend. The better question is:
→ What's your highest-performing lead source right now?
→ Which marketing channel have you spent money on without reviewing results in the last 90 days?
→ What low-cost tactic could you add to every completed job?
→ Where are customers hearing about you, then verifying you're the right choice?
